McAfee Completes Acquisition of SafeBoot

McAfee announced a few weeks back acquisition of an encryption vendor SafeBoot. This acquisition has now been completed and approved by all authorities, and SafeBoot is part of the McAfee family. McAfee has expanded the offer to cover encryption as well, complementing Data Loss Protection offering.

SafeBoot brings to McAfee a strong product line, including the following:

• SafeBoot Device Encryption - encryption of the whole device to protect all information if lost or stolen.
• SafeBoot Content Encryption - encryption of information on almost every media (such as file-server, CD/DVD, external memory cards etc) to protect against information leakage.
• SafeBoot Port Control - prevents the use of unwanted devices on the host by blocking/limiting their use.
• SafeBoot for USB - secure, driverless, self-encrypting USB storage device.

The SafeBoot solutions are known for flexible centralised manageability as well as being proven and strong on auditing and compliance facilities. Deploying SafeBoot gives visibility and enables the Security Department to prove where encryption solution was successfully deployed and installed.

The very scalable architecture allows for close integration with PKI/AD/LDAP/Novell directories and support for multiple tokens for different log-on mechanisms to leverage investments into these systems. This results in much improved user- experience. SafeBoot has been also praised for their good fit into global and multi-language environments.

McAfee plans in the near future to integrate SafeBoot solutions to also support our ePolicy Orchestrator platform. With this integration McAfee will be the first security company to marry management and reporting of traditional desktop security solutions with encryption and data loss prevention.
